What is included in the collection?
Early childhood development (ECD) lays the foundation for lifelong wellbeing and future learning. The Inuit ECD Working Group defines early childhood as the rapid growth and development period between 0-5 years of age. The scope of this collection is therefore resources and materials with a focus on this critical period of life. In order to be included in the collection, resources and materials must also be grounded in Inuit knowledge, values, and traditions; ECD materials primarily created for southern Canadian or pan-Aboriginal contexts are therefore considered out of scope of this collection.
This site is a central place for Inuit-specific resources related to early childhood education, allowing them to be housed and shared among Inuit living throughout Canada. It includes items such as: teaching tools, child care policy and program manuals, games, craft ideas, traditional child rearing practices, menu and nutrition programs, curriculum ideas, songs, resources for parents, and Inuit ECD research papers and policy reports.
